Day 4: Favourite Eveelution

Umbreon

Another one of my all time favourites and part of my dream team, and again, another pokemon introduced in Gen2. I think it's knowing that he had to like me to evolve that already made me feel particularly attached to it. The evolution through happiness was a completly new concept in Gold and Silver and since I'm a huge nerd who gets easily attached to little pixels on a Game Boy screen, I was ecstatic. I still remember most of what I had to go through to train my Evee and the daily trips to the hairdresser to max out his happiness. I had loved Umbreon's design while battling the kimono girls in Ecruteak City (still one of my favourite cities) and still remember the surprised happy inhumane noise that came out of me when the game went from day to night the very first time - the pokemon games always come as surprises for me, since when I hear a new one is coming out I never try to find out anything about it; all the more so for Gold and Silver since, being a space cadet when I was younger, I didn't even know they were out. They were a christmas gift for my sister and me: I had one version, she had the other.... UU I think it's evident how many childhood memories I link to this pokemon in particular. Did I mention I'm a nerd?

My very first Umbreon was also the first pokemon I successfully trained to reach lvl. 100. Now I try to train an Evee to become an Umbreon whenever it's possible in the game and name it Shadow in honor of my first and favourite Umbreon (I was an original kid and chose the best names, don'tcha know?).

... I think it's very obvious I'm a huge geek by now, if making a pokemon meme didn't give it away already.

Cyndaquil

Bet no one saw that one coming.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for fire pokemon, and this little mofo gets all of my love, all the time. I've already gushed extensively about Quilava so the same applies to little Cyndaquil here.
On a related note, this dollmaker has been going around on tumblr (originally as a joke I believe, given the mediocre art) and it's actually a lot of fun for a pokéfan. I tried making my trainer OC but she didn't look good, so I dolled myself as a trainer instead.

Of course, with a Cyndaquil.
Fun fact: these are all clothes and accesories I have. Except the pokébelt and VS search (I wish!)

Day 2: Least favourite pokémon

Chikorita

Oh look, another gen2 pokemon. There will probably be lots of those during this meme.

Anyway, yeah. Chikorita. I don't like the damn thing. I like Bayleef and Meganium just fine, but I really don't like Chikorita. The design is cute and all but my guess is that the few times I tried actually training one I had such. a hard. time. Plant pokemon are hard to train in general but I remember toiling so much during the first part of the game when I tried chosing it as my starter. So I guess it's my least favourite because of bad memories associated with it. Just because it's my least favourite doesn't mean I hate it though, I really don't think there is a pokemon I hate.

Day 1 Favourite pokémon

Quilava.

I know that going by stats alone cyndaquil/quilava/typhlosion is the weakest fire starter of all generations, but gen2 was my favourite and as soon as I saw the little guys I was in love. Also, I've always gone with the whole "a true trainer tries to win with his favourites and not with the strongest pokémon" thing because I am the nerdiest nerd to have ever nerded.

Truth be told I don't know why quilava in particular and not say, cyndaquil -for adorableness- or typhlosion -for badassery- whom I adore too of course. I guess something clicked the first time I played my Silver game and saw my cyndaquil evolve? I actually love Quilava so much that I only ever had a typhlosion on my first playthrough of silver, which my cousin erased by mistake when I was about three-quarters done. On my second playthrough -which I consider my best and where I achieved my dream team- and all the other times I've played gen2, including HeartGold SoulSilver, I always prevented my quilava from evolving.

I've always had male Quilavas, and they're always named Fritz.

Why can't a day be more than 24 hours?

Because seriously, I could use the extra time. The more I write, the more things I find I have to say for my thesis, and a chapter that I had thought would be fifteen pages long ends up being twenty-four. This is good of course, but I only have a month left to finish writing this thing - that being at least a hundred pages total. I'm not worried about reaching the page count (if I keep adding sections like this I'll even go over it UU) but I'm starting to fear I will have to edit things out if I don't want to run out of time.

And now I must run to work. Why can't I call in sick the whole month and only sleep and work on my thesis? I miss sleeping.

Seriously, I need some kind of time-stopping device.

I made a Goodreads account. I have leia_solo to thank, I didn't even know of that page! I read about it on her journal.

Once my thesis is done, I'm going to be able to read a lot more... not for research I mean. I miss reading just for the pleasure of it. I don't think I've read a book just for myself in these last two years.

This really feels like livejournal, where I haven't been in a while, admitedly. And here I am, creating an account on a new journal based community when I should be writing another chapter of my thesis. Oh well. Writing an entry really is just talking to yourself until someone reads it. I hope I can make some new friends here!
